Situated in the Yarra Valley, Wagner’s Poultry is little over an hour’s drive from Melbourne, Australia. Wagner's Poultry was established in 1965 as a family business, and continues to operate as such with the third generation now involved.

Our Hatchery
Every fortnight we hatch baby chicks that our customers purchase for their broody hens, grow up for back yard chickens or to provide their kids an experience of learning to care for something. These chicks are sexed so you can confidently know what you are purchasing. Please check our hatch dates above and contact our office if you wish to place an order.
Our Hatchlings
Every fortnight we hatch a number of baby chickens and ducklings. Our baby chickens consist of isa browns, leghorns and australorp chickens. Our ducklings are peking and khaki campbells. To place an order please call the office on 03 9739 1460.

'Its the feed that makes a BETTER egg!'
Eggs are the result of what the chicken eats, the yolk colour is obtained by carotenes which are ingested through grass, lucerne, corn, marigold flower, capsicum etc. The more carotenes the chicken eats the richer the colour of the yolk. If you feed fish to them, the eggs will taste fishy and cabbage has the same effect.
The same goes for chemicals. Eggs can easily be contaminated by residue which can be in the feed, from antibiotics, hormones or pesticides used in treating grains.
Most feeds don't contain antibiotics or hormones as they need a vet's prescription, cost money and are not needed in backyard chook feed.
However chemical pesitcides are widely used by the grain growing industry for the control of pests in the stored grain. These chemicals are sprayed onto the grain that goes for storage. This grain then has a with-holding period, whereby it should not be used.
Here at Wagner's Poultry, at harvest time we purchase grain which has not been treated with any pesticides and in turn we don't use any chemicals ourselves.
We think it is the better alternative for our customers. Therefore, sometimes during the year you may find some weevils and beetles in our layers mash. These bugs are harmless to the chooks as chooks are NOT vegetarians! They eat the bugs in the garden. So feel confident when eating your home-grown, great tasting eggs, without any chemical residue!

BACK YARD CHICKENS
We have the Isa Brown, Leghorn and Australorp chickens available at point of lay. Due to the popularity of the Leghorn and Australorp chickens we don't always have them available. Please make contact with our office to register your interest for when they are available.
Whats the difference between the breeds? Well the Isa Brown chicken is friendlier and is one we recommend when children are young. The Leghorn and Australorp can be a bit more of a flightier chook however their colouring can add pizazz to your flock. Our shop also caters for all your chicken needs with drinkers, feeders, mite treatments etc. We also stock egg cartons in dozens and trays. If you are after a Hensafe door please click here to order.
EGG PULP - Pasteurised Egg
We currently supply commercial quantities of chilled and frozen egg pulp to many local and interstate customers. To find out more or make enquiry about this service please email wagners.office1@gmail.com.
